In 2019, the engineering team at Katadyn Desalination responded to a request from the USAF Guardian Angel Program. This specialized group within the US Air Force focuses on personnel recovery, often at sea. The group was looking for a compact, DC-powered watermaker that could withstand rough deployments. The solution was a modified Katadyn PowerSurvivor 40, enclosed in a durable case and powered by commonly used BB-2590 DC batteries. The HFD (Hands-Free Desalinator) is rugged, reliable and dead simple.
